Beaches are one of the most loved and visited places in Queensland, so to help you narrow down your next beachside escape we’ve put together a list of our Top 10 Queensland Beaches by Discover Queensland! Enjoy!

1. Nudey Beach, Fitzroy Island, Tropical North Queensland

Voted Australia’s Number 1 stretch of coastline by Beach Expert Brad Farmer in Australia’s top 101 beaches, we can’t be far off including Nudey Beach in our list!

This gorgeous stretch of coastline is on Fitzroy Island, a 30 minute fast cat boat ride from Cairns. Originally a nude bathing beach, the area has since donned clothing and is a family favourite. It’s main features include mesmerising aqua waters, gentle lapping waves, and white coral in place of sand! Our accommodation of choice to spend time at Nudey Beach is Fitzroy Island Resort.

2. Mudjimba Beach, Sunshine Coast
This unspoilt coastal haven is a patrolled surf beach with thundering sapphire waves and golden sand and is less frequented than sister beaches in Mooloolaba and Coolum. There is a small island off the coast – Mudjimba Island you can kayak or SUP to, as well as plenty of pathways for bike or scooter riding.

Mudjimba Beach is walking distance from the Twin Waters resorts, a stone’s throw from Maroochydore and 90 minutes from Brisbane.

3. Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast

Burleigh Heads is an unsung area of the Gold Coast, with the stunning Burleigh Heads Beach as well as an array of restaurants and cafes, Burleigh Heads National Park, and a smattering of great accommodation options, this is the perfect place for a beachside escape.

The surf beach is framed by national park, which creates a lovely backdrop and there is plenty of space on the beach itself, which is handy as this is a popular spot for visitors and locals alike!

4. Lake McKenzie, Fraser Island, Fraser Coast


One of the most pristine beaches you will come across, Lake McKenzie is situated smack bang in the middle of Fraser Island, the worlds’ largest sand island! The beach is framed by luscious rainforest, which is the only place in the world you’ll find rainforest on a sand island, and has incredibly clear, baby blue water lapping striking white sand.

There are many ‘beaches’ surrounding the lake, so finding your own slice of island paradise isn’t hard and it’s only a short walk down a sandy path. Be sure to pack a picnic as there are tables and chairs to enjoy lunch at while you enjoy the scenery.

5. Rossyln Bay, Yeppoon, Capricorn Coast

Seven minutes south of Yeppoon you will find the beautiful Rosslyn Bay, protected from the elements by a volcanic outcrop formed 70 million years ago. The perfect teal and cyan waters, paired with the stark white sand, and volcanic mountain looming creates quite the captivating sight! You can embark on a short, but vigorous walk to the summit and enjoy magnificent views of the Keppel Islands and coastline.

Rosslyn Bay is a hive of activity with regular ferries departing for Great Keppel Island, as well as fishing and cruise boats calling the bay home. It’s a fantastic spot for families as the protected bay sports calm waters. There are plenty of restaurants that boast fresh reef fish, bugs, prawns, and mud crabs straight off the trawlers!

6. Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas, Tropical North Queensland

This beach is one of the most popular and well known in Tropical North Queensland, famous for its sprawling four miles of white sand and calm turquoise waters bordered by luscious greenery and mountains. Being Tropical North, you will have to swim in the enclosed areas or wear a stinger suit between November and May.

At the northern end of Four Mile Beach there is a patch of beach covered in boulders, as the tide comes in little rock pools emmerge perfect for the kids to play and explore. It’s also a great place to lay out your towel soak up some rays! There is also a scenic walk that stretches up and around the bluff peppered with great lookouts and views.

From a sleepy coastal town in the 70’s Port Douglas is now an international tourist destination with several fantastic accommodation options, our top choice is Sea Temple Private Apartments by Boutique Collection, as the pool is incredible and it backs onto Four Mile Beach. There is also an excellent range of holiday houses in the area.

7. Ellis Beach, Palm Cove, Tropical North Queensland

As you approach Ellis Beach a sense of ethereal beauty will overcome you. It looks like something only possible in photoshop with heavy editing. The calm powder blue water gently rolls against the sand with palm trees swaying in the breeze, with a cordoned off swimming area safe from stingers.

Backed by picturesque rainforest with views over the Coral Sea out to Double Island, this is the perfect beach to spend the day swimming and soaking up the sunshine before heading across the road to Ellis Beach Bar & Grill to enjoy $1 oyster Sunday!

Our Palm Cove accommodation option is Mantra Amphora to make the most of Ellis Beach.

8. Greenmount Beach, Coolangatta, Gold Coast 


One of the most coveted beaches on the Gold Coast, Greenmount is a popular patrolled surf beach south of Coolangatta beach. Even on the busiest of days, you will find a quiet spot to lay your towel and enjoy this secluded idyllic beach and soak up the “Cooly” sun. The 800-metre-long stretch has a unique charm, at one end you have Greenmount Hill with a rocky outcrop, which the kids will love playing in, and Snapper Rocks at the other end.

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance of Greenmount beach to offer refreshments, and a walk way so you can explore the surrounding area up to Greenmount Point headland across to Rainbow Bay. You’ll also find a playground for the kids as well as BBQ facilities and tables to enjoy.

9. Kurrawa Beach, Broadbeach, Gold Coast

With Broadbeach being one of the most popular regions of the Gold Coast Kurrawa beach is a popular choice for beach goers with golden sand and crashing waves and unbelievable stunning sunsets - this is a must-see beach!

This coastal gem is also home to one of the Gold Coast’s best parks – Pratten Park which boasts a huge all abilities playground.  The beach is also within walking distance to the Gold Coast’s dining hub so food is in no short supply!

10. Noosa Heads, Sunshine Coast 


This north facing beach boasts beautiful calm waters, one of the most visited national parks in Australia, and one of the most popular shopping and foodie strips – Hastings Street!

Take a walk through the headland and visit additional secluded beaches along the way, before you return to Noosa Heads and enjoy a bite to eat at one of the many dining options!  

Noosa Heads is a great beach for families, as the waters are wavy but calm and the beach is patrolled year-round by surf lifesavers. There are also great facilities including showers, change rooms, and BBQ areas.
