COOLANGATTA EVENTS
Although it’s a lesser known area, the incredible beaches and atmosphere mean Coolangatta is host to several major surf and lifestyle events including the Quiksilver Pro and Roxy Pro, Coolangatta Gold (which will be a virtual event in 2020 due to COVID19) and Cooly Rocks On scheduled to launch 9 - 13 June 2021!You’ll always find entertainment at Twin Towns services club which hosts local and international acts as well as decent pub grub.
COOL PLACES NEAR COOLANGATTA TO VISIT
The northern end of Coolangatta borders Tugun and Currumbin, home to Currumbin Creek (a beautiful swimming spot framed by headland and popular for calm and clear waters) and also Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.COOLANGATTA BEACHES
Heading south you’ll find several beaches including Greenmount, Coolangatta, Snapper Rocks and the world class surf of Duranbah. You will always find swell at Dbah even when the rest of the coast is flat, while Greenmount offers families a protected pocket of beach for swimming.There is a beautiful beach walk that wraps around Greenmount Hill connecting Greenmount and Rainbow Beaches. You can carry on up the hill to Point Danger where the memorial and QLD / NSW border is situated. This is also a great spot for whale watching!
COOLANGATTA SHOPPING
To indulge in retail therapy drop by The Strand, the regions shopping centre on the water, here you'll find everything from boutiques to the Coolangatta Hotel to the Cinema and Timezone! Make sure you duck out and stroll along Marine Parade to enjoy the unique boutiques along the esplanade.
If you prefer Hoyts to Birch Caroll and Coyle or simply want to explore the regions shopping, you'll only need to pop 5 k's down the road to Tweed City Shopping Centre (not to be confused with Tweed Mall, which is slightly closer but has no cinema).
HOW TO GET TO COOLANGATTA
Getting to Coolangatta is very easy, you can fly into Gold Coast Airport and you're work is done, catch a bus or drive.Driving to Coolangatta
Brisbane to Coolangatta is approximately a 1 hour 15 – 30 minute drive.Surfers Paradise to Coolangatta is approximately a 30 minute drive.
Sydney to Coolangatta is approximately an 8 hour 30 minute drive.
Is Coolangatta in Queensland?
The burning question on everyone's mind! Yes, Coolangatta is in Queensland. It is the southern most suburb of the Gold Coast along the Queensland and New South Wales border.
THINGS TO DO IN COOLANGATTA TOP HIGHLIGHTS

Indulge in a swim (or photo) at Snapper Rock Pools – there are plenty of rock pools here as well as a man-made pool filled with aqua water to enjoy while listening to the sound of crashing waves and soaking up the sunshine.

Take a Walk – Our favourite is the boardwalk around Greenmount Beach walking path around Greenmount Hill to Rainbow Beach. You can carry on your walk all the way up to the Captain Cook Memorial and Lighthouse for amazing views of the ocean and two beaches, if you’re lucky you’ll even spot a whale! Right behind you is one of our favourite places to get a coffee or lunch – Café Dbar.
